November's heartier recipes for fun

The grape and walnut harvests are in and the cooler weather has finally arrived. Now we can get set for some more family and friends entertaining with this month's recipes and the holidays ahead.

Thanksgiving and Christmas are around the corner and with that in mind we have four recipe offerings that you can put to use during those evenings you're entertaining.

One is called Oven-fried Chicken with Mushrooms and Garlic, which is a perfect meal when it's crisp outside and you're craving something hearty-but don't want a meal that's too similar to a Thanksgiving-taste. This is a yummy Mama-cooking type meal. It's so delicious!

Another recipe, Brandied Shrimp with Mushrooms and Green onions on Gemelli pasta is a sure favorite and a break from the heavier meals of the holidays.

A tempting photogenic side-dish we have this month is our version of Baked Tomatoes. Even using store-bought tomatoes, the accompanying ingredients are so complementary to the tomatoes when baked and transforms them in to a sure-fire hit with the crowd. And it's so easy to make, you'll use this recipe throughout the year!

Then finally this month I'm sharing my decades-old recipe for Italian-American Meatballs. Almost every person has their own recipe, but I'm sharing mine because these are always a a welcome hit --especially when everyone is "turkeyed-out!" Please see my blog on Italian-American Meatballs -Always a Crowd Pleaser! . My meatballs use all fresh ingredients and they're very colorful. Served ideally with my Basic Marinara Sauce recipe, it's a crowd pleaser!

A tip from Sue!

Sauteing whole garlic

If your recipe calls for whole garlic, it doesn't burn as easily when in larger pieces. But you do need to score your garlic cloves all over in order to release the garlic juices and fragrance .Always be careful to avoid burning the cloves. It'll make the garlic cloves bitter and ruin what you're cooking.
