Couscous with Jumbo Flame Raisins

Couscous with Giant Flame Raisins is a delicious quick side dish that you can throw together in literally a couple of minutes. Couscous is a "no-brainer" that's an often overlooked option for a carbohydrate side dish that's a perfect accompaniment to chicken or seafood. Add the flame raisins and you have a side dish that almost steals the show. The only prerequisite you need to make this recipe is to know how to boil water.

One nice thing about this recipe is you can always have the ingredients on hand. Couscous and raisins store well --although I recommend that you refrigerate the raisins to preserve their flavor. If you cannot find giant flame raisins, golden raisins are a good substitute. 2017, Couscous with Jumbo Flame Raisins
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 5 minutes
re-calculate ingredients for:


1 Cup Chicken broth
2 Tablespoons Unsalted butter
1/4 teaspoons Salt
1 Cup Whole Wheat Couscous
2/3 Cup Giant Flame raisins

If you can't find Flame raisins Golden Raisins will do.

Preparation Directions.

1 In a medium-large saucepan, combine chicken broth and butter and heat over high heat and bring to a boil.

2 When the broth is boiling, add the salt, and stir.

3 Next, add the raisins and the couscous. Stir well. Bring the broth back to boiling.

4 Cover and turn off heat. Let the covered pot stand for at least five minutes.

5 Fluff the couscous mixture with a fork and serve.

When selecting a can of vegetables, fruit or stew-like contents, while holding the can in your hand and carefully rotating it back and forth, you can tell just HOW MUCH volume is made up of actual solids versus liquid (i.e buying a can of canned whole tomatoes in their juices). The less slippage back and forth, the higher the solid food-content versus liquid and a better bargain for the price!
