Mud-Pie Romantic Table Style
Mud-Pie-Romantic Table Style is a really FUN dessert recipe to eat! It's our version of the ice cream favorite. I'm a sucker for anything ice cream-based.-I LOVE ice cream! It's wonderful coldness as it slides from my mouth to my throat --the sweetness of the chilled frozen cream mixed with juxtaposed flavors that surround it --But OH! do I worry about the calories! However, I rationalize this by knowing that most of the time, I'm following The Mediterranean Diet - defensive healthy eating.
, which most of our recipes subscribe to, so one can occasionally splurge a little and eat something not quite so healthy --though it's proven that chocolate and sweets are loaded with serotonin and other healthy chemicals for our nervous systems! --And that keeps us SANE!!!!
The Mud-pie starts out with a classic homemade chocolate wafer-graham cracker butter crust which is then baked, cooled and then frozen. Then a thin layer of my unbelievably good homemade Dark Chocolate Hot Fudge Sauce that's been chilled is spread on top of the crust and sides. Then you freeze the pie again. Then two quarts of Coffee Ice Cream is packed onto the cold chocolate crust. Then that's frozen some more. Now for the resistance-proof "crowning glory", my homemade Dark Chocolate Hot Fudge that is chilled, then spread on top to totally cover and encase the contents of the ice cream pie. Then that very heavy ice cream pie is frozen at least overnight and then cut into pie pieces and served with some Whipped Cream topped with roasted sliced almonds. OH MY God!!! Another reason to celebrate this hot-weather season!!!
Preparation time: 1 hour Cooking time:
For the Crust
10 inch Deep-dish Tart pan or pie pan
5 ounces Chocolate Wafer Cookies
5 Ounces Honey Graham Crackers
6 Tablespoons Unsalted butter melted
1/4 cup Confectioners Sugar
For the Mud-Pie
3 cups Dark Chocolate Hot Fudge Sauce
2 quarts Coffee Ice Cream
1/2 cup Sliced Almonds
1 In a food processor, break up the chocolate wafers and graham crackers into small pieces and process until crumbs. Add in confectioners sugar and process to mix well.
2 With the food processor running add in melted butter until slightly sticky texture.
3 Press crumbs into pan. Push hard against sides and bottom.
4 Bake at 350 degrees for 9 minutes.
5 Remove from oven and let cool. Put pan into a freezer and let crust freeze hard for several hours.
6 Remove pan from freezer and apply about a one cup of the chilled Dark Chocolate Hot Fudge Sauce to the sides and bottom of crust. Put pan back in freezer and let freeze hard some more.
7 Remove pan from freezer and pack 2 quarts of ice cream hard into the deep-dish pan. Freeze hard overnight.
8 Finally, remove pan from freezer and apply at least 2 cups of Fudge Sauce over top and seal sides well with fudge. Return Mud-pie to the freezer and freeze overnight.
9 When about to serve, before slicing the pie, heat up your carving knife under very hot water. Then make your cuts. When the knife starts sticking, run under hot water again and finish your cuts.
10 Top each piece with a dollop of whipping cream and some sliced almonds. Serve.
This goes especially well with coffee or Iced tea.
